Iranians mourn for Imam Hussein (AS)

Iranians have been holding mourning ceremonies marking the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam.

The mourning ceremonies are being held across Iran while observing health protocols against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei attended one of the ceremonies on Tasua night at Imam Khomeini (RA) Husseiniyah.

Iranians mourn the martyrdom of the Imam during the first 10 days of Muharram month.

The peak of the mourning ceremonies is on the 10th day known as Ashura when Imam Hussein (AS) and his followers were martyred.

Imam Hussein (AS) and his 72 entourage confronted Yazid, the second Umayyad caliph, aimed at preserving the holy religion of Islam and the traditions of Prophet Muhammad [PBUH].

Ashura, an example of the way of living, is an exemplary event to take lessons and guarantee justice, fairness, and fight against tyranny in all eras.
